Deciphering Michigan's Right to Farm Act for Local Governments
June 11, 2013 - 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Michigan’s Right to Farm Act (RTFA) (MCL 286.471 et seq.), was enacted to protect farmers from nuisance lawsuits initiated by non-farm neighbors. The rationale for the legislative act was based on the fact that such suits could threaten the economic viability of agriculture in a community, and collectively the state, and the opinion that a farm that existed prior to changes in surrounding land use should not be challenged as a nuisance if following generally accepted management practices. The program will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 6:30-9:30pm. Registration is $55 (Master Citizen Planners register for $50) Registration ends June 4, 2013. Registrations after that cost $80 and $75. Master Citizen Planners will earn 3.0 hours of continuing education credits. Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center, 6686 S. Center Highway, Traverse City, MI 49684, Map | For more information and to register: http://events.anr.msu.edu/rtfa2013
