As the workforce development arm of Northwest Michigan Council of Governments, Northwest Michigan WORKS! provides a wide variety of services to every sector of our economy. These services include:

  • Business Services  We provide free human resources information and assistance to small and large businesses. Business Liaisons assist employers with employee recruitment and training, and connect businesses with other resources such as SBTDC and PTAC.
  • Job Seeker Services  Job seekers receive help with writing résumés, career information and job search, interest assessments, and more in the job seeker resource rooms. Career Advisors assist job seekers with accessing publicly-funded programs for returning to school or on the job training.
  • Learning Labs  Adults attend the Michigan WORKS! Learning Labs to receive individualized instruction for increasing job skills or obtaining a GED.
  • Youth Services  Youth of the Northwest Michigan region can receve specialized assistance from a Youth Advisor. Services include employment assistance, drop-out prevention, internships, summer jobs for disadvantaged youth, social behavior and soft skills training, and more.

Northwest Michigan WORKS! consists of partnerships amongst several governmental and educational agencies, and accesses a multitude of publicly-funded programs.

Career Education and Training Fairs like one held in Kalkaska, give people an opportunity to talk with representatives from four year and community colleges and specialized training providers. There is also information available about things like No Worker Left Behind and financial aid. Besides getting questions answered face to face, attendees can also fill out computerized questionnaires that help them figure out their learning style, search for training, or learn what type of career best fits their interests.
