Michigan WORKS!

Michigan WORKS! > No Worker Left Behind > Step 4: Assessment

Step 4: Assessment

In this step, you'll meet one-on-one with a Career Advisor. (You'll receive the names and  contact information of available career advisors when you attend the orientation, and can make an appointment at that time.)

Your Career Advisor will discuss your career and training plans with you, and determine if you're eligible for funding. You will complete paperwork and provide some documentation. He or she will also conduct an assessment to make sure your plans are realistic and that you will be successful in training.

Assessments can include the following:

  • Interest and/or skills assessments
  • Math and reading tests
  • College entrance exam
  • One-on-one discussion
  • Completion of research on your career and training choice, such as conducting informational interviews, writing a summary of why you chose that training, others as necessary.

Every person is different, and your choices are different. So assessment will be unique to your plans.

Your Career Advisor will be your guide through the rest of the process, and your point of contact for all questions and concerns. He or she is here to help!
