Job Search Strategies Workshop
Targeting a job search, uncovering the hidden job market, and the art of informational interviewing are the objectives of this workshop. It also emphasizes the importance of following directions for accurate written communication. You will create a plan for job search, and discuss the importance of working the plan for overall greater success. You'll also learn from fellow job seekers and experience the benefits of networking, including how informational interviews expand professional networks.
Career Exploration and Planning Workshop
Selecting a career target is the first step in a successful employment plan. This workshop uses an interest and values assessment to determine potential career options for you. You are then guided through steps to research careers, explore training options, and look at the job market. You will get everything you need to make an informed career decision.
Skills Identification Workshop
Employers want to know that you have the right skills for the job. Do you know which skills you have? How do you describe those skills in an interview or résumé? This workshop will help you identify specific job skills, as well as the "soft" skills that are needed for any occupation. Then, you will enter those skills into your Michigan Works! Membership profile - giving staff the information needed to match you with new job openings.

Developing Your Employment Goals Workshop
Once you've chosen a career target in the Career Planning Workshop, it is time to make an action plan. In this workshop, you will identify goals and prioritize the steps toward achieving them. You will leave the workshop with a specific action plan and a clearly defined support and accountability network.
Résumé Development Workshop
The main objective of this workshop is to learn the purpose of résumés and to identify which résumé type will work best to sell your skills to a potential employer. The workshop reinforces best writing practices and the importance of accuracy on written job search information. It also provides an understanding of the difference between electronic and traditional résumés and how to use each. You will receive a résumé writing workbook for future reference, and a clear direction about responding to job offers.
Interviewing Strategies Workshop
This workshop is designed to give you a basic understanding of what employers are looking for during interviews, and an understanding of the types and parts of interviews. You will learn how to prepare for an interview, how to answer potential questions, identify when to use your "60 second self commercial" (written in the workshop) and how to follow up. You will also practice interviewing in a low pressure environment to learn your individual areas for improvement.
WIA Eligibility Workshop
Need more assistance in your job search and career planning? One-on-one help from a Career Counselor, on-the-job training, or funding for college may be available to you. This workshop will determine whether you are eligible - based on income and/or job loss - for additional services.
